Take precautions: if you are taking any type of prescription drugs, they may interact in negative ways with the chemicals in sunscreen.

Do not use sunscreen on babies under 6 months old the chemicals in the sunscreen are to severe for babies skin.

No, baby should be exposed to the direct sun for more than 5 minutes.

Here's an old directive to go by: "The Shadow Knows," Should you worry you have been in the sun to long or you are at risk of a bad sunburn, think of this...

Look at your shadow if it is shorter than you are in height, you can certainly suffer a nasty sunburn.

The easiest times to get a sunburn are between the hours of 10 am and 2 pm.

If you do become sunburn as long sit in the bathtub of cool but not cold water.

Dump in a quart of non-fat milk and soak for a half hour or so.

To stop pain from a simple sunburn spread sour cream over the affected area, leave on for 20 minutes.

With severe sunburn where you are blistering, use instead ice packs or cold water compresses.

Do not put any type of creams on blistered skin, it may cause infection.

Call your doctor and visit him or her if ice or cold water has no effect on the pain and/or the reddening worsens.

You may be in need of antibiotics.

Get Sugar the Organic Way

No, Preservatives, msg, colorings, taste enhancers....

Do you like me, make your own syrup for waffles, french toast and pancakes?

You have way more control over the ingredient list if you make your own syrup.

And the great part is it takes very little time. Here's what you do.... put 1 cup of distilled water in a saucepan; 1/2 c. brow sugar (organic); 1/2 c, white sugar (organic); a cap-full of Maple flavoring extract or a 1/2 teaspoon to give the syrup a mapley flavor.

You cook it on medium heat until it almost boils.

Transfer the syrup to a pitcher (must be glass).

Stand a table-knife up inside the pitcher before pouring the syrup into the pitcher.

The cold knife will absorb most of the heat from the hot syrup instead of the pitcher.

You wouldn't want to break grandma's very old pitcher.

I generally make more than the above and refrigerate the leftovers.

Another trick is to add jelly or jam. It thickens the syrup and gives the syrup a fruity taste.

My favorites are raspberry and apricot preserves added.

Heat equal parts of water and vinegar, soak a small towel or washcloth in the mixture, wring it out.

Apply the cloth as a hot compress to your sore muscles, keep it on the ache for at least 5 minutes, longer if the muscle is more than an ache.

Then follow that with the same procedure only this time use a cold compress. Chill the cloth in ice water and repeat.

Do this 3 times total and you ache should be gone, if not it's time to visit a doctor.
